KYLE LOUGHERY, ATC
What schooling and/or degrees have you obtained to help your career?
- BAE (bachelor of arts in education) with a sports medicine emphasis from Eastern Washington University.
Psychology minor from EWU.
Health education endorsement from EWU.
Certified athletic trainer through NATA.
Vocational certification- Sports Medicine.
Why you decided this was the best job for you?
I came from a small school in Montana (Thompson Falls). As an athlete I was getting hurt and the coaches did what they knew, but I wondered if there was more. That sparked my interest in the Athletic Training field. I love sports and I knew I wanted to work with athletes some how. I also had a great mentor in high school, Mr. Dieterich that showed me how fun and important it is to teach Physical Education and I wanted to make a difference in peoples lives like he had for me.
What is the best part of the job and most challenging part of the job?
Cheney High School is a great place to work. The athletes, the coaches, and the administration are very supportive. The most challenging part I would say would be the hours. There are a lot of hours involved for a full time teacher/ ATC at a high school. Another challenging aspect of the job are athletes that think they know everything, or athletes that do not follow protocol that would help them get better.
